Collection: The 1990s

Thirty in 2026 is a birth year of 1996. Thirty years of marriage is a wedding in 1996. The 1990s are also where the wines start to feel like something you might open rather than only keep, which quietly changes the kind of gift this is.

1990 is the year everybody names first, one of the best of the century in Bordeaux and Piedmont alike, with a superb Champagne to go with it. In the Douro the declarations came a little later, in 1991 and 1994. 1996 gave Champagne a vintage still argued about today and Bordeaux a firm, structured one. 1997 belonged to Tuscany and Piedmont. 1998 favoured Pomerol and the southern Rhône, 1999 favoured Burgundy, and Rioja had 1994 and 1995.

These bottles are younger, which improves the odds, but thirty years is still thirty years and we do not sell hope. We look at each bottle before it is paid for and tell you what we see.
