2000 was a fine Bordeaux vintage that also had the luck of a memorable number, which has kept demand high ever since. 2001 was extraordinary in Sauternes. 2005 was one of the great modern years across most of France, Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône together, while Piedmont had 2001 and 2004. This is the decade where a specific year is easiest to find.
