Duhart-Milon is the quiet Rothschild property. Domaines Barons de Rothschild, owners of Lafite, bought it in 1962 with only seventeen hectares in production and spent the following thirty years rebuilding the vineyard on the plateau immediately west of Lafite itself. The 1983 comes from the middle of that long repair, made from relatively young vines by a team whose attention was mostly next door.
It is honest Pauillac all the same: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on deep Günzian gravel, firm and cedary, with the pencil-and-iron character the commune gives. 1983 brought a hot summer followed by a tricky September, and the northern Médoc made structured, savoury wines rather than opulent ones.
Four decades on, that structure is exactly what has kept it upright. It is sold as it should be: a collector's bottle from the year, with its behaviour in the glass a matter for the evening it is opened.

Where it is likely to be now. The firmness of northern Médoc 1983 has helped this survive, but at forty-three years it is likely lean and savoury, and it is sold as a collectible without a guarantee of drinkability.
