Feytit-Clinet is a plot of about six hectares on the Pomerol plateau, hemmed in by Clinet, Latour à Pomerol and the church at the top of the hill — roughly as good an address as the appellation offers. For most of the twentieth century, though, the owning family leased the vines out to Jean-Pierre Moueix, the négociant house behind Pétrus, and it was Moueix who made the wine in 1981.

That means old-school Pomerol: Merlot on gravel over clay, picked and vinified by the firm that effectively defined how the appellation tasted. The estate only returned to family control in 2000, after which its reputation climbed sharply.

At this price it is one of the least expensive ways to own a Pomerol from a named vintage forty-five years back — mature, savoury, and to be opened rather than stored much longer.

Where it is likely to be now. A modest-sized Pomerol from 1981 will be soft and fully resolved by now, pleasant if it has been kept cold but with no structure left in reserve.

Who it suits. A good-value 45th birthday bottle for 2026, and an easy one to explain to a recipient who has heard of Pomerol but has never been given one.

Condition. Good label, with the fill between very top shoulder and bottom neck — a high level for a bottle of this age and a sign the cork has held.

Provenance. Bought to order from a professional European merchant. We check fill, label and capsule when the bottle reaches us and photograph it before it ships.

Delivered in 7 to 10 working days, tracked. Transit cover can be added at checkout.

Sold as a collectible item, as seen. No guarantee is given on drinkability.
