Figeac is the odd one out in Saint-Émilion. Where almost everyone around it plants Merlot on clay and limestone, Figeac sits on two rises of deep Günzian gravel and plants roughly a third each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot — a Médoc recipe on the Right Bank. Cheval Blanc, next door, was carved out of the Figeac estate in the nineteenth century, which tells you what the land is worth.
In 1974 the château was run by Thierry Manoncourt, who took charge in 1947 and stayed for sixty years, and who spent much of that time arguing for Cabernet on a bank of the river that had decided against it. The vintage itself was poor across Bordeaux: rain from September onwards, thin wines, little ambition for the cellar.
Be clear-eyed about this particular bottle. The fill has dropped to mid-shoulder, so it is offered as a collectible object marking a year, not as something we would expect to pour well. The price reflects that.

Where it is likely to be now. A weak vintage combined with a mid-shoulder fill means you should assume the wine is no longer drinkable and value the bottle as an object.
Who it suits. An affordable way to put a great Saint-Émilion address on a fifty-second birthday in 2026, provided the recipient understands they are being given a keepsake.
Condition. The label is in good order, but the wine has fallen to mid-shoulder, which is low even for 1974 and means the cork has let air past over the years.
Provenance. Bought to order from a professional European merchant. We check fill, label and capsule when the bottle reaches us and photograph it before it ships.
Delivered in 7 to 10 working days, tracked. Transit cover can be added at checkout.
Sold as a collectible item, as seen. No guarantee is given on drinkability.
