Pomerol has no classification and almost no grand châteaux. It is a small plateau of gravel and clay carved up between family holdings, and La Cabanne is one of them — the Estager family have owned it since the 1950s, farming around ten hectares of mostly Merlot a short walk from names that sell for twenty times as much.
1978 is remembered as the miracle vintage: a wretched summer turned around by a warm, dry autumn that pushed the harvest into late October. Merlot needed every day of it, and the Right Bank was less uniformly successful than the Médoc, but the good addresses brought in ripe fruit.
Under a hundred euro is about as little as a genuine Pomerol from this year can cost. It is a real wine from a real estate, not a souvenir with an old label on it.

Where it is likely to be now. A modest Pomerol of forty-eight years will be light and tertiary if it has survived well, and it is offered as a collectible bottle rather than something we can promise will drink.
Who it suits. A well-judged forty-eighth birthday gift when the year matters more than the budget, and the least expensive way into Pomerol for 1978.
Condition. The label carries marking from its years in the cellar, but the wine sits at very top shoulder, which for a 1978 is a good level and the thing that actually counts.
Provenance. Bought to order from a professional European merchant. We check fill, label and capsule when the bottle reaches us and photograph it before it ships.
Delivered in 7 to 10 working days, tracked. Transit cover can be added at checkout.
Sold as a collectible item, as seen. No guarantee is given on drinkability.
